In reply to the questionnaire included with your letter of June 1 1, 1996 please be advised as follows.
I. The Canada Shipping Act and Regulations, and the Arctic Waters Pollution Prevention Act and Regulations are the primary pieces of legislation that deal with shipping maatters in Canada including ship construction and equipment. Enclosed is a brochure that details how you may obtain these documents; also included is a comprehensive list of regulations made wider tile Canada Shipping Act. You should also bc aware that the Acts and Regulations are on the Internet
at http://www.tc.gc.ca.
2. The requirements of the above Acts and Regulations are enforced by the Ship Inspection Directorate of the Safety and Security Group of Transport Canada We are currently reorganizing within the Group but ultimate responsibility for the regulations and their enforcement will remain with Transport Canada. Due to the reorganization it is difficult to provide you with a meaningful organization chart. Perhaps when you visit us in October our organization will have stabilized.
